Edinburgh – Iceland | 8.6.11 – 20.6.11
During field research in South Iceland, April 2011, samples were collected from the landscape on the basis of their uniqueness in Iceland’s topography; geothermal water, black basalt sand, glacial water and volcanic rock. The samples were brought back to Edinburgh where a series of experiments were conducted that attempted to capture a trace or impression of each material.
Satellite stations were created at exact locations where the samples had been collected in Iceland. During the course of the exhibition the samples will be posted to the address closest to each station, with a set of instructions requesting the recipient to return the sample to its landscape. Eventually we will be left with only their trace element, or negative component, that captures an aspect of the landscape at a particular point in time.
